Visual Communication Design
can be a powerful tool in aiding and promoting wellbeing. Utilising processes of photographic documentation and editorial design, I aimed to reconnect disengaged Kiwi’s with the positive mental effects of the ocean and involvement with the outside environment. As a country made up of islands, the sea is a key surrounding in the lives of the majority of the population. As a person who has a deep connection with the sea, I am passionate about encouraging others to experience and develop their own relationship to this environment.
Photography
The incorporation of photography in this book was a key aspect, as it aimed to convey the profound sensory experiences one encounters while being seaside. Recognising that not everyone has the opportunity to physically visit the ocean, the inclusion of captivating imagery of the sea serves as a valuable substitute. In order to honour the inherent beauty of the ocean, I deliberately refrained from excessive photo editing, allowing the ocean itself to express its essence on its own.
The ocean has a remarkable capacity to evoke different reactions from individuals, and each captured image possesses the power to evoke numerous distinct sentiments. By curating such imagery, my intention was to present viewers with an opportunity to absorb the landscape and extract what they need, while leaving behind any elements that may not resonate.
